Salted Caramel Kentucky Butter Cake
This moist, buttery cake is infused with a rich butter sauce and topped with a decadent salted caramel glaze.
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 cups granulated sugar
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp baking soda
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 4 large eggs
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Butter Sauce:
• ½ cup unsalted butter
• ¾ cup granulated sugar
• ¼ cup water
• 1½ tsp vanilla extract
For the Salted Caramel Glaze:
• ½ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
• ½ tsp sea salt
• ¼ cup heavy cream (optional, for thinner glaze)
Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven – Set to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.
2. Make the Batter – In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Add buttermilk, butter, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
3. Bake – Pour batter into the pan and bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
4. Make Butter Sauce – In a saucepan, melt butter, then stir in sugar and water. Heat until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
5. Soak the Cake – Poke holes in the warm cake with a skewer and slowly pour the butter sauce over it. Let the cake absorb it for at least 30 minutes before removing from the pan.
6. Make Caramel Glaze – Warm caramel sauce and mix in sea salt. If needed, stir in heavy cream for a thinner consistency.
7. Finish & Serve – Drizzle caramel glaze over the cake. Let it set before slicing.
