Classic Patty Melt Recipe
Ingredients:
• 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20)
• 1 small onion, thinly sliced
• 4 slices Swiss or cheddar cheese
• 4 slices rye or sourdough bread
• 2 tbsp butter
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp black pepper
• ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
Instructions:
1. Caramelize Onions – Melt 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until golden brown (about 10 minutes). Remove and set aside.
2. Cook Patties – Shape ground beef into 2 or 4 thin patties. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook in the skillet over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side.
3. Assemble Sandwiches – Butter one side of each bread slice. Layer cheese, a cooked patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese between two slices of bread (buttered side out).
4. Grill – Cook in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese melts.
5. Serve – Slice and enjoy hot!
