Joe’s Crab Shack Crab Dip


Ingredients (serves 6-8):

For the dip:

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened.
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or seafood seasoning).
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor).
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a bit of heat).
  • 1 lb (450 g) lump crabmeat (fresh, canned, or imitation crab works too).
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions (for garnish).

For serving:

  • Tortilla chips, crackers, or sliced baguette.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the base:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Add the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika (if using), and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir until everything is evenly incorporated.
  1. Add the crabmeat:
  • Gently fold in the lump crabmeat, being careful not to break up the chunks too much. Save a few pieces for topping if desired.
  1. Transfer to a baking dish:
  • Spread the mixture evenly into a greased oven-safe baking dish (an 8×8-inch or similar size works well). Top with any reserved crabmeat for presentation.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly, and the top is lightly golden.
  1. Garnish and serve:
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with chopped green onions for a fresh, colorful touch.
  • Serve warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or sliced baguette.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of lump crabmeat and claw meat.
  • If you prefer a spicier dip, add a dash of hot sauce or extra cayenne pepper.
  • This dip can also be made in a slow cooker: mix all ingredients, cook on low for 2-3 hours, and stir occasionally.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
