Here’s a classic Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce recipe—warm, comforting, and full of nostalgia!
Ingredients:
For the Bread Pudding:
• 6 cups stale bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, or white bread)
• 2 ½ cups whole milk
• ½ cup heavy cream
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• ½ cup brown sugar
• 3 large eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• ¼ tsp nutmeg
• ¼ tsp salt
• ½ cup raisins (optional)
• 2 tbsp melted butter
For the Vanilla Sauce:
• ½ cup unsalted butter
• ½ cup heavy cream
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for a thicker sauce)
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
Make the Bread Pudding:
1. Preheat Oven: Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Soak the Bread: Place bread cubes in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugars, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Pour over the bread and let sit for 15-20 minutes so the bread absorbs the mixture.
3. Add Mix-ins: Stir in raisins if using, then pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle melted butter on top.
4. Bake: Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center.
Make the Vanilla Sauce:
5. Melt Butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
6. Add Sugar & Cream: Stir in heavy cream and sugar. Cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly. If using cornstarch, mix it with 1 tbsp water first, then add it in to thicken.
7. Finish with Vanilla: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Serve:
8. Let the bread pudding cool slightly, then drizzle with warm vanilla sauce. Enjoy!
