Copycat Long John Silver’s Batter Recipe

Ingredients:

• ¾ cup all-purpose flour

• 2 tbsp cornstarch

• ¼ tsp baking soda

• ¼ tsp baking powder

• 1 tsp salt

• 1 tsp sugar

• 1 tsp onion powder (optional)

• ½ tsp paprika

• ¾ cup cold water

• Oil for frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Batter

• In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, onion powder, and paprika.

• Gradually add cold water, whisking until smooth. The batter should be slightly thick but pourable.

2. Heat the Oil

• Fill a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan with oil (vegetable or canola oil works best).

• Heat to 350°F (175°C).

3. Coat and Fry

• Dip fish fillets, chicken, or shrimp into the batter, ensuring an even coating.

• Carefully lower into the hot oil and fry for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

• Remove and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.

4. Serve and Enjoy!

• Serve hot with tartar sauce, coleslaw, or fries.
