• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

• 2 cups chicken broth

• 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)

• ½ teaspoon salt

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

• ½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

• ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
