Cheddar Sausage Biscuits

Ingredients

For the Biscuits:

• 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

• 1 tbsp baking powder

• ½ tsp baking soda

• ½ tsp salt

• ½ cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cubed

• 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (cold)

• 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the Sausage Filling:

• 1 lb (450g) breakfast sausage

• ½ tsp black pepper

• ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Sausage

• In a pan, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned.

• Season with black pepper and garlic powder if using.

• Drain any excess grease and set aside.

2️⃣ Make the Biscuit Dough

• Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

• In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

• Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

• Stir in the cheddar cheese.

• Gradually add cold buttermilk and mix until just combined.

3️⃣ Assemble the Biscuits

• Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.

• Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds.

• Place half of the biscuit rounds on a lined baking sheet.

• Add a scoop of cooked sausage on top of each biscuit.

• Place another biscuit round on top, pressing lightly around the edges to seal.

• Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

• Brush with melted butter if desired.
