Beef and Potato Casserole Recipe

Beef and Potato Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheese (optional, for topping)
  • Fresh parsley or thyme, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the beef mixture:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
    • Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
    • Stir in the paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
    • Mix in the tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Assemble the casserole:
    • Grease a baking dish (approximately 9×13 inches).
    • Spread a layer of the cooked beef mixture at the bottom of the dish.
    • Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes over the beef. Repeat the layers, finishing with a potato layer on top.
    • If using cheese, sprinkle it over the top layer of potatoes.
  4. Bake:
    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes to brown the top.
  5. Garnish and serve:
    • Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme before serving.

Notes:

  • For extra creaminess, you can pour 1/2 cup of heavy cream or milk over the potato layers before baking.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
