Beef and Potato Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheese (optional, for topping)
- Fresh parsley or thyme, for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the beef mixture:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Stir in the paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Mix in the tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Assemble the casserole:
- Grease a baking dish (approximately 9×13 inches).
- Spread a layer of the cooked beef mixture at the bottom of the dish.
- Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes over the beef. Repeat the layers, finishing with a potato layer on top.
- If using cheese, sprinkle it over the top layer of potatoes.
- Bake:
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes to brown the top.
- Garnish and serve:
- Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme before serving.
Notes:
- For extra creaminess, you can pour 1/2 cup of heavy cream or milk over the potato layers before baking.
- Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
