HOME OLD-FASHIONED SOFT AND BUTTERY YEAST ROLLS

Old-fashioned soft and buttery yeast rolls are a delightful treat! Here’s a classic recipe you can follow to make them at home:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional for flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional for flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture:
  • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk (about 110°F) and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top, stir gently, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  1. Mix dry ingredients:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour and salt (and garlic/onion powder if using).
  1. Melt butter:
  • Melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter and let it cool slightly.
  1. Combine wet ingredients:
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture.
  1. Combine wet and dry:
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture. Stir until combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  1. Knead the dough:
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  1. First rise:
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  1. Shape the rolls:
  • Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12-15 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  1. Second rise:
  • Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
  1. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Brush with butter:
    • Remove rolls from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter as soon as they come out.
  3. Serve:
    • Enjoy warm with butter, honey, or your favorite spread!

Tips:

  • Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature for better results.
  • You can freeze leftover rolls for later enjoyment—simply reheat them in the oven!

Enjoy baking these soft and buttery rolls! They make a perfect side for any meal.
